Launch your career at SSTL
Our Way of Working
Our missions are dependent on our teamwork and we find that giving people the opportunity to demonstrate their talents makes SSTL a more innovative and motivating place to work – which ultimately benefits our customers.
We have a management style that empowers people, allowing scope for creativity and autonomy. We operate a matrix management structure, which delegates responsibility and decision-making throughout the business.
We are proud of the fact that some of the best aerospace engineers in the world aspire to work at SSTL. They appreciate the exposure they gain to all the elements of the satellite mission life-cycle.
More than 50% of our staff have worked on at least three different missions and a large group bring the experience of having worked on more than 10 SSTL missions – an unusual level of experience in the space industry.
Our People
We look for enthusiastic, driven and ambitious people, who are motivated to learn quickly but also bring a broad range of skills and experience. We are keen to recruit people who like a challenge, and are not afraid to take responsibility for their work, actions and decisions.
Through our recruitment process, we aim to recruit the right people by ensuring that you have a good understanding of what we do, the role that you are interested in, and our expectations.
Our Culture and Benefits
SSTL prides itself on being a super flexible company. Most roles are based in our Head Office in Guildford but we fully support hybrid working and a range of flexible working options.
With a generous holiday allowance of 32 days (plus public holidays), encouraging employees to meet a good work/life balance is so important.
SSTL's genuinely open environment is informal yet hard working, characterised by an informal dress policy, busy social diary and a complete open door policy. A sense of team spirit and a willingness to achieve success as part of a team is what we look for in potential recruits.
Communication is key to our work and our on site breakout area - fondly known as The Hub - plays host to a regular ‘family’ meeting for employees to learn about the latest news on projects, as well as social and and charity related activities.
Full company briefing meetings are also held in The Hub on a quarterly basis, where Senior Executives provide a snapshot of the business.
Our Recruitment Process

SSTL welcomes job applicants from around the world.
Candidates from outside of the UK may need a skilled worker visa to come to the UK to work. We do apply for skilled worker visa sponsorship on behalf of candidates with specialist skills – but can only do this if there has not already been an application from a suitable candidate who is a resident of the UK or does not already require a visa to work in the UK (for example, holds settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme).
Further information on the UK Government's immigration policy can be obtained from UK Border Agency website

Developing our talent is vital to SSTL’s continued business growth and success. New starters are assigned a ‘buddy’ within their team to help in those vital first few weeks with us. We also ensure that if needed, a mentor is assigned to help accelerate your knowledge and learning.
We have an annual appraisal process where each individual’s learning and development needs are taken into consideration and prioritised as part of our annual training and development plan. We also support conference attendance where appropriate and can help support further education and study where relevant to a particular role.
