We offer several avenues which will help you start your career in the space industry, with options ranging from School Work Experience to our Early Careers Programmes.
Work Experience
School Work Experience Week
Designed for those aged 11-18 years old, work experience at SSTL offers a hands on experience across several different Engineering functions, helping them to gain a better understanding of the space industry, and see if they would like a career in space.
We run several weeks of work experience placements over the school holidays and host around 6-8 aspiring Engineers per week.
Industrial Year Placement
Designed for those aged 18 – 21 years old currently studying at University, this work experience offers more exposure to the company and the way we work, helping them gain an in depth knowledge of an Engineering function suitable to their studies, whilst getting to work alongside some of our most experienced employees.
This work experience placement takes place over a 6-12 month period and hosts around 2-4 students per year.
Early Careers Programme
Graduate Programme
Designed for those who have recently graduated, our Graduate Programme expands on the skills and knowledge gained through studying a degree, whilst giving the opportunity to work with our experience employees and build on the job experience.
Our Graduate Programme takes place over 2 years, and has an average intake of around 6-8 graduates per programme.
Apprenticeship Programme
Designed for those who have recently completed A-Levels or equivalent, our Apprenticeship Programmes are a great opportunity to gain a recognised degree qualification whilst developing on-the-job experience and building a career in space.
Our Apprenticeship Programme takes place over 4 years and has an average intake of around 4-6 apprentices per programme.

Work Experience
Our one week work experience placements for school-age children take place over June, July and August and are advertised as vacancies on our jobs page. Industrial Year Placements typically start in September are also advertised as vacancies on our jobs page.

Graduate placements are advertised as vacancies on our jobs page and should be applied to via those vacancies. Successful shortlisted applicants are invited to attend an assessment day here at our Head Office, usually around Jan-Feb. Placements typically start around mid September.
Applications are closed for 2024 and will re-open October 2025 for the following year's intake
