Microsoft Fabric BI Developer - Contractor
Reports To Infrastructure Manager
About the Role
We’re looking for an individual with strong Microsoft Azure and Fabric experience who can manage, optimize, and develop our data platforms while delivering high-quality analytics through interactive dashboards and reports.
This role spans data warehouse architecture, data model governance, ETL/ELT pipelines, and BI/reporting enablement—working closely with business stakeholders, SAP teams, and BI developers to turn data into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
Data Engineering & Cloud Architecture
Fabric Ecosystem Management: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of the Microsoft Fabric environment, managing both Data Warehouses and Lakehouses to support diverse analytical workloads.
Data Orchestration & ETL: Architect and monitor complex data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and SAP Datasphere to ensure seamless data movement from source systems to the Fabric ecosystem.
Storage Strategy: Optimize data storage using Delta Lake formats, ensuring efficient partitioning, vacuuming, and performance tuning within the Fabric environment.
Environment Governance: Manage the technical lifecycle of the reporting system, including workspace administration, deployment pipelines, and capacity management.
Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment: Create and develop pipelines using Fabric CI/CD to enable offline development and minimal downtime when deploying new solutions.
Business Intelligence & Semantic Modelling
Semantic Layer Development: Design and optimize sophisticated Power BI Semantic Models (Tabular), ensuring high performance, reusable DAX measures, and "single source of truth" logic.
Advanced Visualization: Create and deploy high-impact interactive dashboards, paginated reports, and Power BI Applications tailored for executive and operational stakeholders.
Mobile & Edge Reporting: Configure and optimize reports specifically for the Power BI Mobile experience, ensuring critical data is accessible to field and factory floor staff.
Self-Service Enablement: Curate and maintain certified datasets and "Golden Models" to empower power users to build their own insights safely and accurately.
Data Governance & Security
Access Control & Security: Define and enforce robust Roles and Authorizations. Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and Object-Level Security (OLS) to maintain strict compliance with ITAR, GDPR, and PCI standards.
Data Privacy Compliance: Ensure all cloud data movements and storage configurations adhere to internal data privacy rules and external regulatory requirements.
Leadership, Training & Data Culture
Data Evangelism: Act as the primary champion for the new Fabric Reporting System, raising awareness across the organization of the value and capabilities of the Data Warehouse.
User Training: Conduct workshops and training sessions for business users, ranging from basic data literacy to advanced self-service Power BI techniques.
Culture Shift: Partner with department heads to help enforce a data-driven decision-making culture, moving the business away from manual spreadsheets toward automated, verified insights.
PERSON SPECIFICATION (essential requirements)
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
· Relevant certifications are a plus: Power BI Data Analyst Associate.
Experience
Modern Data Stack & Cloud Architecture
Microsoft Fabric Ecosystem: Hands-on experience architecting and managing data solutions within Microsoft Fabric, specifically utilizing Fabric Warehouse (T-SQL based) and Fabric Lakehouse (Spark/Delta Lake).
Cloud Data Integration: Proven experience building and orchestrating scalable data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) or Fabric Data Pipelines.
SAP Integration (Desirable): Previous experience with SAP Datasphere for data modelling and integration is highly desirable but not mandatory.
Analytics & Visualization
Power BI Mastery: Expert-level administration and development within Power BI Pro and Premium capacities. This includes workspace management, deployment pipelines, and capacity optimization.
Advanced Analytical Scripting: Deep proficiency in the "Power Query" and "Modelling" languages:
Modelling: Advanced DAX (Data Analysis Expressions).
Data Transformation: M Query and Python (specifically for data manipulation).
Automation & Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in PowerShell for environment automation and R-Script for advanced statistical modelling or visualization.
Data Domain & Compliance Expertise
Operational Data Structures: Substantial experience working with high-volume production data originating from ERP or MRP applications. You must understand how to translate complex manufacturing/supply chain schemas into clean analytical models.
Financial Intelligence: Experience managing and reporting on Financial Data, ensuring total accuracy for month-end processing and fiscal audits.
