Work Experience Programme - IT Support
Work Experience Programme – IT Support
Our Work Experience offers School and College Students the chance to spend one week, working alongside our experienced industry professionals to get an insight into the world of Space Engineering at SSTL, whilst gaining some new, invaluable skills for the future.
Dates for this work experience will be 1st June to 5th June 2026
We are thrilled to be able offer work experience here at SSTL for the June of 2026. We are looking for Years 10 to 13 who have an interest in gaining valuable experience within the Space Industry.
Throughout the week, students will gain first-hand insight into what it’s like to work in IT within the space industry. They’ll explore the key areas of IT Service Delivery, IT Infrastructure and IT Security, experiencing how each team supports the wider business and contributes to keeping SSTL running smoothly.
In Service Delivery, students will discover how IT issues are logged, prioritised and solved. They’ll get to explore the helpdesk system, handle real hardware, swap components and follow the full process of building and setting up a new laptop. They’ll also see the specialist applications used across SSTL and how Business Systems supports teams every day.
With the Infrastructure Team, students will step inside the SSTL datacentre to see the servers and networks that power the entire company, learning how the core systems are maintained behind the scenes.
In IT Security, students will learn how SSTL defends itself against cyber threats. They’ll see the tools used to spot suspicious activity, look at real past incidents and understand how evidence is collected and protected.
SSTL do not expect applicants to have any prior knowledge or previous experience within IT but showing a keen interest in this direction of career is desirable.
SSTL endeavour to offer work experience to as many students as possible, therefore due to the high number of applicants we are unable to accept applications from students who have previously completed the programme.
